2006 World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals Boost Scouting Power with ScoutAdvisor® DataPro
Web-based tool utilizes relational technology to enable major league baseball staffs to run cross-database searches that combine proprietary and public data.
TAMPA, Fla. – (Aug. XX, 2007) – The World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals had a powerful new weapon in their information technology arsenal during the 2007 summer trades: ScoutAdvisor® DataPro.
A fully relational, web-based application, ScoutAdvisor® DataPro enables Major League Baseball (MLB) teams to streamline their statistical analysis of existing or prospective players through simultaneous cross-database searching and reporting of their proprietary professional and amateur scouting data and transactional data from MLB, as well as statistical data from Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) and any other STATS providers.
"The sheer volume of statistics and other data on prospective players has increased exponentially, and we wanted a powerful, user-friendly application to help us mine that data for use in our scouting models to ensure we were making the best possible roster decisions," said John Mozeliak, Assistant General Manager, St. Louis Cardinals. "ScoutAdvisor® DataPro made it easy to factor all our data into each individual search, as well as to scale search criteria in a seemingly infinite number of ways to give us the kind of comprehensive player reports we needed to make the right choices during this critical summer trading period."
Featuring a .NET framework and built on an industry-standard Microsoft Enterprise SQL Server platform, ScoutAdvisor® DataPro integrates seamlessly into the ScoutAdvisor® flagship scouting and baseball information system, the IBM PROS scouting system or any other MLB team’s proprietary system. It enables general managers and front office staffs to build reports through relational searches that combine data from every information source a team has at its disposal. Among these sources are a club’s proprietary pro and amateur player evaluations, biographical, transactional and contract information provided daily by MLB and daily batting, pitching and fielding statistics from MLBAM.
"The real power of ScoutAdvisor® DataPro lies in its ability to take hundreds of data categories from multiple sources and merge them together to create a single, comprehensive, highly customizable report," said Michael Morizio, CEO, ScoutAdvisor
Corporation. "Once you locate your desired player via the search mechanisms, you can drill down to create a customizable statistical dashboard that displays all the public and proprietary data a team has, all in one place. Search criteria can be refined in any number of ways to ensure the information that is being presented is precisely the information that is needed."
ScoutAdvisor® DataPro:
The flagship ScoutAdvisor® scouting and baseball information system allows general managers, staff, instructors, scouts and trainers to securely access, input and upload public and propriety scouting and statistical data. Field staff can upload their daily game reports, as well as synchronize their systems with player updates and updated transaction information from MLB and other STATS providers, all via a centralized database.
"Both the ScoutAdvisor® main system and DataPro were invaluable to the Cardinals during the summer trades and will continue to be powerful tools throughout the year," said Mozeliak. "Along with the quality support provided by ScoutAdvisor Corporation, these applications will play a key role in our quest to win another championship title."
